ScanJet 5s Administrative Privileges Update for HP Scanjet 5s (PC) HP ScanJet 5s Administrative Privileges Update You will receive the error message,­ "Cannot initiate connection to PaperPort,­" if you are using the Hewlett-Packard 5s Scanning Software on a Windows NT system without having administrative rights and you are trying to scan to Visioneer PaperPort.­ This program will correct the problem,­ and is designed to run only on computers with Windows NT 4.­0.­ A user does not need to have administrative privileges to run the program,­ but must have write privileges to the Hewlett-Packard 5s Scanning Software directory.­ (This is usually named "SCNJET5S".­) Once this program has been installed,­ users with limited privilege levels will be able to scan files directly to PaperPort.­ Note: Users do need to have write access to the root directory to be able to use the 5s Scanning Software.­ Manual Installation Instructions: Choose the file you want to download to your system.­ With your mouse,­ click on the file.­ You will now be prompted to select the folder (sub-directory) where the download will be placed on your hard disk.­ (Example: If you wanted to download to your C:TEMP you would select that folder from the list of folders in the download "Save As" screen.­) Now open the C:Temp folder (if that was your selected folder),­ and double-click on the file you downloaded.­ This file will decompress into a default folder c:sj226adm,­ or any folder of your choice.­ You will find the SETUP.­EXE file in the c:sj226adm folder,­ or the folder that you chose.­ Double-click the SETUP.­EXE file to activate the software installation.­ Compatible devices: C5167A
